Watts, born 28 September 1968 is a British actor from the United Kingdom. After
her family moved to Australia in the early 1980s, she made her film debut in
the film For Love Alone (1986) and later appeared in three television series,
Hey Dad.. (1990), Brides of Christ (1991) as well as Home and Away (1991) and
in the film Flirting (1991). After having moved to the United States, Watts
initially was not a successful actress, playing roles in smaller-scale films
until she was a part of David Lynch's psychological thriller Mulholland Drive
in 2001 as an aspiring actress. Her rise to fame internationally was due to
this part. Watts played the part of a depressed journalist in The Ring, a
horror film that was remade. Her portrayal of a mother with grief in
Alejandro's 21 Grams (2003) was nominated for the Academy Award. She continued
to rise in popularity with performances in I Heart Huckabees (2004) and King
Kong (2005) as along with Eastern Promises (2007) and The International (2009).
Watts was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance
in The Impossible (2012) as Maria Bennett. She was in films such as Birdman
(2014) St. Vincent (2014) and While We're Young (2015). Watts was also a
prominent character in blockbuster films, starring in Divergent (2015)-2016.
