Rashida Jones
Rashida Jones was born in Los Angeles,
California, the daughter of a media mogul, producer, and musician Quincy Jones
and actress Peggy Lipton. Kidada Jones is her elder sibling. Five half-siblings
are born through other relationships with her father. Her father is African
American and her mother is Ashkenazi Jewish (a descendant emigrants from Russia
and Latvia). Rashida was raised in Reform Judaism. She was born in Bel Air, Los
Angeles, California. Jones said that her mixed-race parentage was not recognized
by the public until the 1970s. Jones was a professional actor when she made her
debut on The Last Don, a mini-series in 1997 that was based on a novel by Mario
Puzo. In 1997, Rashida graduated from Harvard University. She attended the
Buckley School in Sherman Oaks (California). The school awarded her the most
likely to succeed. The name she uses is Arabic (O+-O'UO-O(c)) which means
"Major, adult, grown-up or wise". People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful

Jones was her sister's engagement ring bearer and she sang as a vocalist for an
Tupac Shakur tribute track. Kidada as well as her brother Quincy Jones III
composed the song. Quincy Jones III, their father, was also featured in the
opening, reciting Shakur's lines "Starry Night". The poem is the
source of the song's title. Rashida is African-American and has more English,
Scottish, or Welsh ancestry than his mother (some of his African ancestors came
from the Tikar tribe of Cameroon). Rashida is Ashkenazi Jewish, of Russian
Jewish and Latvian Jewish descent. Her maternal grandparents came from South
Carolina and Mississippi. Her maternal grandfather was born in New York, and
her maternal grandmother was born in Dublin, Ireland, of Eastern European Jewish
origin. As of the end of 2009 she had played three different characters,
including "Karen", on the classic TV sitcoms Freaks and Geeks (1999),
Stella ((2005) and The Office ((2005)).
